Huge thank you to David! Our brand new custom wings and side curtains on our Robalo R272 CC look awesome! Should have done this sooner! Our questioned were listened to and answered honestly. David made sure we were comfortable with everything from concept to completion. He said don't hesitate to text or call with any questions at all and when I did he answered. Historically people are quick to complain when they aren't satisfied but not willing to offer gratitude and compliments. I felt this experience worthy to give a testimonial, which I'm not one to do lol. I'd recommend David to anyone. Well done. Thank you!! 🍻🚤⚓️👏

Common questions and tips from our work with Somers Point customers.
- Should I repair my boat cover or replace it?
- It depends on the fabric. If the canvas is still strong and holds water out, seams, grommets, straps and small tears are usually worth repairing. If the fabric itself is brittle, faded through or tears when you pull on it, new stitching will not hold for long. Bring the cover in and we will look at it with you and give an honest recommendation.
- Why do seams fail before the fabric does?
- Sun and salt break down thread faster than many marine fabrics. Once the thread weakens, wind and the weight of pooled water pull the seam apart. That is why older canvas often has sound fabric with split seams. Re-stitching with UV-resistant thread can bring a cover back into service if the fabric still has life in it.
Tip
Catch small canvas damage early
A loose grommet or a short open seam is a small fix. Left alone, wind keeps working on it, and the load shifts to the next fastener or stitch until a panel tears. Check your cover and bimini a few times each season, especially after a storm. Rinse salt off with fresh water and let canvas dry before storing it to slow mildew and wear.
